The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Florida International safety Jonathan Cyprien with the No. 33 overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Cyprien is rated as the No. 39 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in this year's draft class by SB Nation's Dan Kadar.

After releasing Dawan Landry earlier in the offseason, the Jaguars have a significant hole at the strong safety position that can be filled immediately with the selection of Cyprien. He will be slated to start from day one in the new-look Jacksonville defense.
In Gus Bradley’s defense in Seattle, the team relied on the play of large strong safety Kam Chancellor. Bradley will hope to get the same type of contributions from Cyprien in Jacksonville, although he isn’t quite as big as Chancellor.
In its prospect profile of Cyprien, NFL.com says the former Florida International University safety could be a well-known name sooner than later:
One of the hardest-hitting safeties in the 2013 draft class, Cyprien offers enough range to be reliable in box coverage while displaying an aggressive mentality againt ball carriers and receivers. He plays smart, and that might be the most improtant trait when looking at safeties. However, despite it being unique, Cyprien doesn’t have a very well known name ... yet.

Cyprien began to make real national waves at the Senior Bowl, but his senior season at Florida International capped a strong collegiate career. He intercepted four passes and registered 93 total tackles, 3.5 of those going for a loss, along with five pass breakups and a forced fumble.
His all-out style of play and ballhawking instincts make Cyprien an attractive NFL prospect, and his consistent production all through college may help towards a smooth transition to the professional ranks.
