2013 NFL Draft results: Best, worst and most surprising picks of Day 3

The intrigue of the day surrounded the quarterback position after only three came off the board in the first two nights of the draft. The Eagles quickly made Matt Barkley the first pick of the afternoon, but the fun didn't stop there. Here are the highlights of the afternoon through round five.

Jaguars get faster - Among the laundry list of problems with the 2012 Jaguars, a lack of speed was near the top. On day three of the NFL Draft, general manager David Caldwell addressed that issue, drafting Ace Sanders in round four and Denard Robinson in round five. Sanders will step in and return kicks for the team immediately and could see some work in the slot. Meanwhile, the team announced Robinson as a running back, which is the best fit for him in the NFL. With Sanders and Robinson, the Jaguars now have the freedom to do some creative things on offense for the first time in a long time.

Packers and 49ers do their thing - It's no secret that the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers have mastered the NFL Draft process. The track record speaks for itself. Their prominence has been on display on Saturday, as the Packers picked up running back Johnathan Franklin and bolstered the offensive line. The Niners decided to add some depth at the skill positons, acquiring Quinton Patton and Marcus Lattimore. Further evidence that one should never doubt Ted Thompson or Trent Baalke.

Broncos get Quanterus Smith - After losing Elvis Dumervil, defensive end became a position of need for the Broncos. Quanterus Smith is the most polished pass rusher in the 2013 NFL Draft, but he will be coming off a torn ACL entering his rookie season. In the fifth round, Smith was well worth the risk.

Chiefs nab Sanders Commings - The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the fifth round with one of the steals of the draft. Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings, a physical, instinctive defensive back, was hanging around and the Chiefs wasted no time adding him to the roster.

Steelers take Landry Jones - The Pittsburgh Steelers had a need for a No. 2 quarterback entering this draft. But they took a shot on the wrong prospect way too early. Oklahoma's Landry Jones was far from the best quarterback on the board, and his most glaring weakness, an inability to handle pressure, won't do him any favors in Pittsburgh.

New York Giants land Ryan Nassib - Throughout the pre-draft process, Ryan Nassib was linked to plenty of teams, but the Giants weren't among them. The team needs a backup quarterback and elected to make Nassib that guy with their fourth round pick. Jerry Resse proceeded to say he hopes Nassib never has to take a snap for the Giants, referring to his hope that Eli Manning will stay healthy. The pick turned some heads but makes a lot of sense for New York.

Quarterbacks still hanging around - Quarterbacks started to fly off the board in the fourth and fifth round. Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, Landry Jones and Ryan Nassib were all selected, but Zac Dysert, Matt Scott and Tyler Bray continue to wait for their phone call. Some decent value will be had for teams searching for quarterback depth.

Jesse Williams falls - The Seattle Seahawks finally ended Jesse Williams' fall in the fifth round. A first round talent on our final top 200 big board, Williams had some injury issues that may have pushed him down in the draft. Either way, he was just another solid addition to what is shaping up to be another quality draft class in Seattle.
