NFL Draft 2013: Jarvis Jones considered ‘mid-1st round’ prospect

Georgia outside inebacker/defensive end Jarvis Jones had his stock fall after a bad pro day, but according to one report, many scouts still regard him as a mid-first round pick.

USA TODAY Sports

Georgia outside linebacker/defensive end Jarvis Jones has been up and down this offseason, at least when it comes to his draft stock. He began the process going near the absolute top-end of many mock drafts around the Internet, but has been sliding further and further to the middle and even the late first round.

This is due to his struggles in workouts this offseason. He hasn’t impressed many scouts out there with those practices, but according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it’s actually not too big a deal for said scouts. Rapoport says that scouts expected Jones to work out poorly, but that “he’s a football player” and he’s regarded as a mid-first round prospect.

That seems to be in line with where he's being placed in mocks. The latest mock from SB Nation went live on Monday and Jones is going at No. 24 to the Indianapolis Colts. His scouting report does offer a lot of insight to his skillset, which is obviously more evident on game film than it is in practice.

Most recently, Jones took a visit with the Buffalo Bills, who hold the No. 8 pick in the first round. Due to the bad Pro Day performance, most feel that he won't go that high, but nobody would dispute that the Bills would be getting a very talented player if they went that direction.
