Supplemental draft 2013: South Alabama CB Damond Smith, UCF DE Toby Jackson reportedly in

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Former Houston running back Charles Sims may not be in the supplemental draft this year after transferring to West Virginia, but the draft will still take place.

Scheduled for July 11 by the NFL, the supplemental draft reportedly has its first entrants. According to former Packers scout John Middlekauff, South Alabama cornerback Damond Smith is in the supplemental draft. As he notes, the Green Bay Packers tried to sign Smith after the draft before finding out he wasn’t eligible to sign. Smith transferred from Western Michigan. According to Middlekauff, he runs a 4.44 40-yard dash. He’ll host a pro day on July 9.

Middlekauff also noted on Twitter that UNLV defensive end James Boyd may be in the draft. Boyd played just a season at UNLV after transferring from junior college. He originally was a member of Southern California’s 2009 recruiting class. Prior to last season, he switched from quarterback to defensive end. At a listed 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Boyd has an intriguing combination of size and potential. Boyd was not listed in UNLV’s spring prospectus. A season ago, he had 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He started one game.

According to NFLDraftZone.com, Central Florida defensive end Toby Jackson will be in the supplemental draft. He will host a pro day on July 8 at a Georgia high school. Jackson sat out last season due to academics. He played in nine games in 2011 and had 14 tackles and three tackles for loss.

Eight players were in last year's supplemental draft. Only wide receiver Josh Gordon was selected when the Cleveland Browns used a second-round pick on him.
