The second day of practices at the East-West Shrine game were mired in bad weather, forcing the East team to practice inside. In a ballroom. Suffice to say, not a lot of observations could be made.

In a day where East practices were forced indoors, a few West players stood out.

For the West team, Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Justin Ellis asserted himself. At 351 pounds, Ellis is the largest player at the Shrine Game. As Dane Brugler of CBS Sports notes, Ellis showed off his active hands and quick feet.
Several in attendance noted the performance of Pittsburg State wide receiver John Brown. Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting reports that Brown runs precise routes gets natural separation. For the Gorillas this season, Brown had 61 receptions for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Jeff Risdon of DetroitLionsDraft points out the poor conditioning of Michigan State linebacker Max Bullough in his roundup. Bullough came in 20 pounds heavier than what he was listed at Michigan State and is practicing like it.
In his report on NFL Draft Bible, Kyle Crabbs praised the play of UCLA defensive end Cassius Marsh (Brugler did as well). During practices Marsh has looked quick and shown his effort.
Among general managers in attendance at Shrine practices are Ozzie Newsome of the Baltimore Ravens, Thomas Dimitroff of the Atlanta Falcons and Ted Thompson of the Green Bay Packers. Thompson in particular is renowned as one of the hardest working general managers in the league. Considering how many personnel people that have been poached from Green Bay in recent years, that’s a good thing.
