The Senior Bowl is in need of a sixth quarterback, and at the Shrine Game Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garoppolo is making a case to be that player. In the third day of Shrine practices, Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting points out Garoppolo showed off his quick release and a nice pump fake. Jeff Risdon at Detroit Lions Draft said Garoppolo has “picture perfect delivery and accuracy.”
East-West Shrine Game Day 3 roundup
Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo shined on Day 3. Has he done enough to garner a Senior Bowl invitation?

One player that Risdon sees as inconsistent is Syracuse defensive tackle Jay Bromley. The story on Bromley is that he’s a gap-shooting defensive tackle. Power can be an issue for Bromley, and Risdon notes that he doesn’t have anchor strength. Galko considered Bromley the best defensive lineman on Wednesday because he constantly provided disruption.
Steve Shoup from Hogs Haven is out at Shrine practices as well. In his East write-up, he notes that Michigan wide receiver Jeremy Gallon should be able to make a living as a slot receiver. Via Dane Brugler of CBS Sports, one scout came away impressed with Galon as well.
The main purpose of all-star games, obviously, is to give players an opportunity to impress. If a player had a down year and looks good during practices, it will for evaluators to go back to the tape a second time. That may be the case for Wisconsin defensive tackle Beau Allen. As Galko notes in his West notes, Allen showed a good initial push while remaining active in his lower half.
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com came away impressed with Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning. Here’s what he had to say:
He flashes superior anticipation and awareness releasing the ball well before his receivers make breaks. If Wenning can continue to build on his solid start this week, he will force scouts to revisit their grades on him from the fall.
