Following a stellar performance at the Senior Bowl, Colorado State’s Weston Richburg has assumed the top spot in center rankings for the 2014 NFL Draft.

What Richburg may lack in pure strength, he makes up for in quickness and technique. No center in the draft gets the ball out as fast as Richburg. That allows him to get into his stance and either block linemen solo or help the guards next to him. Richburg is also a good enough athlete to get out on the second level and target linebackers on the move.
The center class in the draft this year is solid. It’s easy to see at least the top six getting taken in the first five rounds. However, not even Richburg will come close to going in the first. Like many positions, center has a variety of types. Teams looking to add athleticism to the line will prefer Richburg or Oklahoma’s Gabe Ikard. Travis Swanson of Arkansas and Marcus Martin of Southern California fit better in power blocking schemes.
