2014 NFL Draft offensive tackle rankings

Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson are at the top, and the difference between the two is potential versus readiness.

Offensive tackle rankings remain largely unchanged from our last update. While Auburn’s Greg Robinson has assumed the top spot for many, we’re sticking by Texas A&M’s Jake Matthews. Both should be top 10 picks.

The difference between the two is where they’re at right now as players. Matthews is further along in his development, largely because he’s a senior and Robinson is just a redshirt sophomore. While some of Robinson’s ranking is based on potential, his upside is considerable. Matthews, meanwhile, may not have the potential of Robinson, he’s more of a finished product, particularly as a pass blocker.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Michigan’s Taylor Lewan secured his position as the third-best tackle in the draft. At the same time, questions came up about the health of Cyrus Kouandjio’s knee.

The depth of the class comes with players who are expected to play right tackle in the NFL. That includes players like Morgan Moses, Jack Mewhort and Ju’Wuan James.
