2014 NFL mock draft: C.J. Mosley to Miami Dolphins at No. 19

With the board picked clean of top-tier offensive line prospects, what alternate route could Miami take in Round 1?

It’s not exactly a secret that the Miami Dolphins are in the market for offensive linemen entering the 2014 NFL Draft. Sitting at No. 19 overall, however, and with four offensive linemen (Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews, Taylor Lewan and Zack Martin) already off the board, Kevin Nogle of The Phinsider is forced to address a different need area, and hope that a quality lineman slips to him in the second round of the 2014 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft.

”The Dolphins are attempting to rebuild their offensive line this offseason, looking to fix a unit that allowed a franchise-record 58 sacks in 2013, and had a small issue with harassment, or something like that. The way the board has fallen, however, does not lend itself to Miami selecting a tackle with this selection, meaning the Dolphins will look to pick an impact player in the first round, and come back in the second to get the offensive lineman they need.

Unfortunately, the top non-offensive line targets are also taken, with players like tight end Eric Ebron, safety Calvin Pryor and defensive tackle Aaron Donald off the board. Consideration has to be given to Louis Nix III or Timmy Jernigan here, giving the Dolphins a long-term plan at defensive tackle with Jared Odrick’s contract ending after 2014 and Randy Starks’ new contract complete after 2015. In the end, however, the lure of adding a talent like Mosley, able to come in and solidify the middle linebacker position and giving the team the flexibility to shift Dannell Ellerbe to the outside, proves too much to ignore.”

Dan Kadar, our handy NFL Draft analyst, has some thoughts and opinions to share on the Dolphins' mock draft pick of Mosley:

The sheer value of Mosley makes this a fine choice. Like previous top middle linebackers, he’s a plug and play rookie who can come in and contribute. But the value for UCLA guard Xavier Su’a-Filo is just as good. The draft’s top guard would fit nicely next to Branden Albert. A guard anywhere near his quality won’t be available in the second round. Although, the same can be said about the middle linebackers compared Mosley.

We'll round out our top 20 tomorrow morning, when Jess Root of Revenge of the Birds makes the No. 20 overall pick for the Arizona Cardinals. Then it's on to the playoff teams.
