Most of the headlines made by the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason have focused on the offensive side of the football, what with the release of DeSean Jackson and the trade for Darren Sproles. While most mock drafters are focusing on a replacement for Jackson with the Eagles’ first-round pick these days, Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation believes that the team has more work to do on the other side of the ball if it’s going to improve on its impressive first season under head coach Chip Kelly.
2014 NFL mock draft: Kyle Fuller to Philadelphia Eagles at No. 22
In desperate need of revamping one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses, the Eagles may wait to replace DeSean Jackson in favor of a quality defensive back in the 2014 NFL Draft.

“The Eagles’ defense allowed the second-most opponent passing yards per game in 2013. With that said, it’s time to upgrade their much-maligned secondary. Cornerbacks Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher and newly added Nolan Carroll may be serviceable starters on the outside, but none appear viable as long-term options. Kyle Fuller gives the Eagles a young corner who will provide immediate depth and even contend for a starting job. Fuller’s length and physicality fit exactly what the Eagles like out of their cornerbacks.”
Dan Kadar, our studious NFL Draft analyst, has some thoughts and opinions to share on the Eagles' mock draft pick of Fuller:
Other than Brandon Boykin, who is a star in the slot, the current group of Eagles cornerbacks are bad. There. It’s been said. While there would be nothing wrong with drafting a wide receiver, cornerback is the smart play. Fuller is a highly talented physical press coverage cornerback. He can handle himself against bigger wide receivers, but has the hip flexibility to stick with undersized speed receivers. Wide receiver is the fun choice. Cornerback is the right choice.
That does it for a busy week of mock draft picks. We'll see you bright and early on Monday morning, when Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride kick-starts another week of 15 picks with the Kansas City Chiefs' No. 23 overall selection. Have a great weekend!
