2016 NFL Draft order: 29 picks in the first round set

Two games happened on Sunday, but only one first-round pick in the draft was settled.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The first round order in the 2016 NFL Draft is just about set. Despite the two AFC and NFC conference championship games taking place, only one more pick in the draft order is set.

That's the case because New England, which lost on Sunday, is without a first-round pick because of the DeflateGate scandal. That loss for the Patriots showed some of the flaws on their roster. The depth at offensive tackle, for instance, showed specifically with Marcus Cannon at right tackle. The return of Nate Solder at left tackle next season will help things, but the depth talent at the position needs to get better. Another option for New England could be wide receiver. That was the choice in last week's mock draft. A wide receiver in that range would give the Patriots a real outside threat.

The one pick that is set following the weekend is the Arizona Cardinals at No. 29. It's easy to say after starter Carson Palmer basically tanked in the playoffs, but you have to wonder if this should be the year Arizona picks a quarterback high in the draft. The team used a fourth-round pick on Logan Thomas in 2014, but he's not even on the team anymore. You wonder if someone like Cardale Jones of Ohio State in the third round would make more sense. In the first round, the Cardinals could go after a player who can get after the passer. Georgia linebacker Leonard Floyd and Eastern Kentucky defensive end Noah Spence would both be good options in the first round.

For now, here is the full 2016 NFL Draft first round order:
