NFL Combine 2016 results: Emmanuel Ogbah stands out among defensive linemen in 40-yard dash

Ogbah’s time of 4.63 seconds in the 40-yard dash made him one of the standouts on Sunday.

Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Defensive ends Emmanuel Ogbah and Charles Tapper paced the field of defensive linemen at the 2016 NFL Combine, with a pair of stellar times in the 40-yard dash for a pair of players who both weighed in at over 270 pounds.

For the players at the very top of the field like Joey Bosa, DeForest Buckner and Noah Spence, it was a drill that didn’t do much to make them stand out or drop their lofty draft hype. Bosa’s 4.86 seconds is far from a bad time, as was the case for Buckner’s 5.05 and Spence’s 4.80, but none stood out as particularly elite.

Spence is considered by many to be the most talented pure edge rusher in the 2016 NFL Draft, but NFL Network pointed out on multiple occasions how much his 40 time pales in comparison to the marks set by dominant players like Von Miller and Khalil Mack in recent years.

Instead it was Ogbah, a possible first-round pick, who showed off elite athleticism for a 273-pound defensive end by setting down a time of 4.63 seconds, just a few hundredths of a second behind the 4.59 finish by Tapper, which was the best of all defensive linemen.
