NFL Combine 2016 results: Defensive backs pick up the pace in 40-yard dash

40-yard dash times have been slow at the NFL Combine, but a few defensive backs bucked the trend with strong times on Monday.

In an otherwise slow NFL Combine, defensive backs did well on Monday with Auburn’s Jonathan Jones leading the entire group with a 4.33 40-yard dash.

Clemson’s Mackensie Alexander did not participate due to a hamstring injury and Vernon Hargreaves of Florida underwhelmed with a 4.50 in the drill, but some of the other top defensive backs had a solid showing in the 40-yard dash.

Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey drew comparisons to Patrick Peterson on NFL Network with his big numbers and kept the hype rolling with a time of 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash. While he’ll hang his hat on his marks in the vertical and broad jump, the mark for Ramsey is more than enough to keep him solidly locked in the top 10 of mock drafts.

Also impressive were Houston cornerback William Jackson, who finished in 4.37 seconds, and Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple, who timed in at 4.40 seconds. Apple has appeared in the back half of the first round in most mock drafts, but Jackson has only sneaked into a handful of mocks.

Below are the full results for the defensive backs in the 40-yard dash:
