2016 NFL mock draft: Laremy Tunsil to Tennessee Titans at No. 1

With the Ole Miss left tackle, need absolutely fits value for the Titans in the first pick of the SB Nation NFL writers mock draft.

After picking second overall last year, the Tennessee Titans carry the first overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. At No. 2 in 2015, the Titans selected Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and appear to have their franchise quarterback of the future. The Titans have solid pieces around Mariota in newly acquired running back DeMarco Murray and athletic young receivers like Kendall Wright, Dorial Green-Beckham and Rishard Matthews.

But if the Titans want to employ head coach Mike Mularkey's "exotic smashmouth" offense, adding talent on the offensive line could be in order. That's been the mindset of many leading up to the draft, including Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles, who handles the Titans' first selection in our 2016 NFL mock draft.

1. Titans: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss

Morris: The Titans have been horrific on the offensive line for the better part of five years. Titans controlling owner Amy Adam Strunk has made no secret about how important it is to protect Marcus Mariota. Tunsil is the best player in this draft and just so happens to be an offensive tackle. Taylor Lewan will move to right tackle and the Titans will have one of the best young tackle pairings in the NFL.

Analysis: Tunsil is the surest of sure things in this year’s draft. It’s not often in the top five where need absolutely fits value, but that’s the case here. With Tunsil and the other additions on offense the past two seasons, Tennessee’s offense could become formidable with the right coaching and play calling. With that said, the Titans would be smart to go heavy on defense the rest of the draft if Tunsil is the choice.
