Alabama set to tie Florida’s 9-year streak of 1st-round picks in the NFL draft

Miami has the longest, with a 14-year streak from 1995-2008.

The 2017 NFL draft is less than a week away, and several college teams across the country will be represented as their players’ names get called by commissioner Roger Goodell. One draft streak that will be tied on Thursday night is that for the longest consecutive stretch with a first-round draft pick. The Florida Gators had the second-longest from 1983-91 with a first-round selection.

The Miami Hurricanes have the longest, with their 14-year streak from 1995-2008. Alabama has had a first-round pick every year since 2009, so a selection on Thursday night will bring the number to nine years, which ties Florida.

Alabama has the chance to tie or even break another Miami record, too. The Hurricanes currently have the record for the most first-round picks taken in a single draft. In 2004, Miami’s team saw six players taken. The Tide could likely tie that number, but there’s a is a slim chance that they could break it.

SB Nation’s latest mock draft features five Alabama players going in the first round, with Jonathan Allen going No. 4 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, cornerback Marlon Humphrey going 18th overall to the Tennessee Titans, tight end O.J. Howard going at No. 11 to the New Orleans Saints, linebacker Reuben Foster to the Miami Dolphins at No. 22, and Cam Robinson at No. 25 to the Houston Texans. The mock was written before the NFL announced Foster failed his drug test at the combine in February, but the linebacker is still expected to go during Round 1. Foster told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that his “diluted” sample was the result of food poisoning.

Linebacker Tim Williams, safety Eddie Jackson, and linebacker Ryan Anderson have a shot to be taken in the first round, but it seems unlikely.
