Packers vs. 49ers, 2013 NFC Divisional Playoffs: Colin Kaepernick’s 4 touchdowns drive win

The 49ers may have a reputation as a defensive powerhouse, but Saturday’s divisional round of the NFC playoffs saw the offense make a statement.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sport

San Francisco 49ers fans have a lot to be happy about following their team's commanding win over the Green Bay Packers, a 45-31 victory that saw the Niners outscore the Packers 21-10 in the second half. One of the biggest things was the performance by rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick, something highlighted by SB Nation's 49ers blog Niners Nation:

The star of this game was Colin Kaepernick. That’s a pretty Captain Obvious statement, but one worth making. Kaepernick set a franchise playoff rushing record, while also setting an NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback in ANY game. Kaepernick finished with 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns, to go along with 263 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns. There were concerns early after he threw a pick-six two minutes into the game, but the young QB bounced back in a big way. If there were any doubts about Kaepernick before, he answered them on one of the biggest stages against a normally decent defense.

The 323 rushing yards gained by San Francisco was more than Green Bay gave up in any regular season game and more than double its regular season average. Frank Gore added 119 yards, a higher total than all but one of his regular season games. Michael Crabtree was another member of the offense who stepped up in a big way with nine catches for 119 yards, including both of Kaepernick's touchdown passes.

San Francisco’s defense has gotten much of the press in Jim Harbaugh’s tenure with the team, but the emergence of Colin Kaepernick has given the team a dynamic offense, and Niners fans are extremely excited about where that can take them. Niners Nation has a lot more about the game, so don’t miss the full post.
