Lions vs. Jaguars results: Detroit uses big second quarter to win, 31-14

The Lions built a big lead in the first half and cruised to an easy victory over the Jags on Sunday.

The Detroit Lions took control in the second quarter and cruised to an easy 31-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Lions scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to carry a big lead into halftime, and the defense did enough to preserve a double-digit victory.

Detroit broke through on the scoreboard as they drove 91 yards to open the second quarter. Matthew Stafford hit Calvin Johnson for 26 yards to set Detroit up in Jaguars territory. Mikel Leshoure capped the drive off with a 7-yard touchdown run.

The Lions built their lead on the next possession, as they were given good field position at their own 47. Stafford hit Johnson on another big play, this time a 38-yard strike, to put Detroit in position at the one-yard line. Leshoure got his second score of the next play.

Leshoure got the hat trick, scoring his third touchdown right before the end of the first half. That finished a 10-play, 81-yard drive.

Jacksonville didn't get on the board until Blaine Gabbert hit Michael Spurlock for a 5-yard scoring strike with 8:40 to play. Gabbert tossed another score when he hit Justin Blackmon with less than a minute to go. It was Blackmon's first-ever NFL touchdown.

It was far too little, far too late as the Lions came away with a big win to move their record to 4-4. The Jags fell to 1-7.

Fantasy studs/duds: Mikel Leshoure was the benefit of his team’s passing game, closing three drives in the second quarter for touchdowns. He added 73 yards on 13 carries for a highly efficient fantasy day.

Leshoure’s fantasy owners can thank Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson for all those points. Stafford completed 23-of-33 passes for 285 yards, while Johnson caught seven balls for 129 yards. Unfortunately, neither reached the endzone.

Jaguars running backs weren't worth much, as the team trailed for much of the day. Rashad Jennings led Jacksonville on the ground with 12 carries for 45 yards.
