Drew Brees believes in the current New Orleans Saints

The future Hall-of-Famer joined us to talk about the Saints, the upcoming NFL season, and the We Give Blood Drive.

The New Orleans Saints have drawn the attention of the football world.

On Tuesday the Saints announced that Spencer Rattler would be the team’s starting quarterback this season. While that is one direction to move toward, just about everybody believes that New Orleans is positioning itself to wind up with someone with ties to the area in the future in University of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, the grandson of franchise icon Archie and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli (using the word legend loosely here. Whoever is quarterbacking the Saints, the franchise is doing what it can to return to its glory days that were authored with Drew Brees under center. Brees is a soon-to-be Pro Football Hall of Famer (he will be eligible for next year’s class) and has a lot of thoughts on the Saints these days. Drew was kind enough to join me recently to discuss them.

Drew joined SB Nation to discuss the Saints, Cowboys and much more, including his work with Abbott and the Big Ten Conference to tackle critical blood shortages across the country for the second season of “The We Give Blood Drive.” The blood drive campaign pits all 18 schools against each other in a competition throughout football season, with the winning school receiving $1 million from Abbott to advance student and community health initiatives. Drew is calling on all Big Ten fans, students, families, and alumni – particularly his fellow Purdue Boilermakers – to sign up to donate blood for their school at BigTen.Org/Abbott.

Ultimately Brees expressed confidence in Rattler specifically, but in the rest of New Orleans’ roster as well and particularly the creativity of new head coach Kellen Moore.

Personally I have covered Kellen a lot in the past as our resident Dallas Cowboys fan and as such I had to get in a few Cowboys-related questions for Brees, who grew up rooting for America’s Team in the state of Texas. Drew will actually call one of the two games set to take place on Netflix this Christmas Day and is hoping to get to be on site for when the Dallas Cowboys visit the Washington Commanders.

Our thanks to Drew, Abbott and the Big Ten Conference for the time.
