Woody Johnson backs the bus over Justin Fields

Jets owner Woody Johnson did not hold back when assessing Justin Fields

NFL owners are currently gathered in New York for two days of league meetings, with some important items on the docket.

But New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has some other things on his mind.

The Jets are off to a winless start, after dropping to 0-7 in a dreadful 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Starting quarterback Justin Fields was benched in that game in favor of Tyrod Taylor after starting 6-of-12 for just 46 yards.

On the season, Fields has completed 63.7% of his passes for 845 yards and just four touchdowns, and while he has yet to throw an interception, the Jets’ passing game is not exactly a thing of beauty.

And Johnson made that very clear on Tuesday when he spoke with the media.

“Well, it looks like [rookie head coach Aaron Glenn] is turning around parts of it,” Johnson said. “It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got. I mean, he has ability, but something is just not jiving. But if you look at any head coach of a quarterback like that, you’re going to see similar results if you were across the league. You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.”

The Jets owner did not stop there.

“I just think defense, special teams are doing better,” Johnson added. “Defense is pretty good. If we can just complete a pass, it would look good.”

You can see Johnson’s comments in full here:

Glenn has yet to name a starting quarterback for New York’s Week 8 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but according to multiple reports, Glenn is leaning towards Taylor over Fields.

After taking over for Fields last Sunday, Taylor completed just 10-of-22 passes for 126 yards and a pair of interceptions.
