NFL trade deadline rumors for Cowboys, Jaguars, and Giants

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is fast approaching.

Teams have until 4:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, November 4 to finalize trades for this league year, after which trades will not be made until the beginning of the next league year. So teams hoping to improve their rosters for a playoff push — or looking to reset for next season — have until next Tuesday to make those trades.

Let’s spin around the league with a look at the latest rumors.

The Dallas Cowboys have a playoff-caliber offense.

Their defense, however, is a massive question mark.

The Cowboys have allowed 3,237 yards (second-most in the NFL), 31.3 points per game (second-most in the NFL), and have allowed opposition offenses to convert third downs at a 52.4% rate, the worst out of any defense in the league.

They need some help on the defensive side of the ball.

Owner Jerry Jones said earlier this month that the Cowboys were “open for business,” and Sunday’s blowout loss to the Denver Broncos did not change his position.

“A loss is discouraging but as far as my temperament, if I saw a proposition for us to help this team, no matter what this score was today, I would look at it on the merits of this team. If you’re talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I’d completely look at it on the merits of this team, both for next week or the weeks after or for the longer term,” Jones told reporters on Sunday in Denver. “No, today would not affect decisions on trading for a player.”

Despite rumors to the contrary, the New York Giants are not interested in trading one of their defensive stalwarts.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday, Jordan Schultz reported that Thibodeaux was a “name to watch” as the deadline approaches. However, other league insiders such as Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport pushed back on that notion Tuesday afternoon:

New York already picked up Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option for next season.

In a similar vein, the Jacksonville Jaguars have no “plans” on trading wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

Thomas has struggled this year, as he has hauled in 27 passes for 365 yards and a touchdown, but has endured issues with drops. But that has not persuaded rookie head coach Liam Coen that the team should be moving him ahead of the trade deadline.

“You know, we have no plans on moving Brian Thomas Jr at all. Saw something about that over the weekend,” Coen said in a press conference yesterday to open Week 9.

“But, I mean, I talked to him for a good amount of time this morning, and it’s just a good reset for a lot of these guys to come in fresh, 4-3, and with everything ahead of us. Regardless, good, bad or indifferent, what’s happened in the first seven games, we all have an opportunity to write a narrative. We own the narrative, and so I got a lot of confidence in him. I really do believe that we can turn the corner and get better in the passing game that way.”

As for the other team in New York City, the New York Jets got their first win last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it is “unclear” whether Breece Hall and Quinnen Williams will still be with the team after the trade deadline.

With the Jets sitting at 1-7, they are prime candidates to be sellers at the deadline. But NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport noted this week that it was “unclear” if the Jets will find a trade they are willing to make. Rapoport noted that teams are calling about Hall, and most of the discussions right now are centered on the running back, and it is even less likely that Williams will be moved.

Speaking Tuesday on The Adam Schefter Podcast, ESPN’s Adam Schefter addressed the upcoming trade deadline and dropped several nuggets.

At the top of the list was this item: The Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills, and the Denver Broncos have all called around the league looking for WR help.

“We’ve got the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos, other teams that have made calls about wide receivers,” said Schefter on Tuesday.

As Schefter noted in the above clip from Tuesday’s show, New Orleans has several wide receivers who could be moved ahead of the deadline. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are the two names mentioned most frequently as trade candidates, but in Schefter’s mind, it is the speedy Shaheed who is the most “likely” to be traded.

“We’ve got the New Orleans Saints sitting on a collection of wide receivers in which I think at one -- at least one -- will be dealt,” began Schefter. “And if I had to bet, I would say Rashid Shaheed is the guy that interests most teams for his speed and his talent, and the guy whose contract is up after this year, who the Saints, I think, would be most willing to part with if the compensation were fair and right.”

A final note from Schefter’s podcast on Tuesday: The New England Patriots have been “open” to moving safety Kyle Duggar. “I would bet he’s no longer a Patriot by the time the trade deadline comes around,” said Schefter.

The Patriots are off to a surprising 6-2 start, and could look to add at running back, edge defender, and wide receiver ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
