Jalen Hurts’ 2 turnovers on one wacky Eagles-Chargers play makes NFL history

Jalen Hurts broke our brains when he threw a pick AND fumbled on the same play

The Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles are both fighting for a playoff spot as they face-off on Monday Night Football in Week 14, and games with stakes this high tend to get a little weird. It certainly felt like the pressure of the moment took over for both teams during the second quarter, when a Jalen Hurts interception led to one of the most bizarre plays of the 2025 NFL season.

With the Eagles driving into the red zone, Hurts threw an awful pass that was picked off by LA defensive end Da’Shawn Hand. This was Hand’s first ever interception after seven years in the league, and it looked like he had absolutely no idea what to do with the ball. Hand ran for a few yards before getting tackled by two Eagles, losing the ball, and seeing it scoot back to Hurts. Just when Hurts recovered the fumble, he lost the ball again when he was hit by a Chargers defender. The ball was kicked down the sideline and stayed in bounds, where Chargers linebacker Troy Dye recovered it and secured possession.

Sounds like a lot, right? It really was. Watch the play here.

There must be some angry fantasy owners out there, because Hurts got dinged for both the interception and the fumble on one play. Rough stuff.

Here’s what the play-by-play write-up looks like, via the always wonderful Chargers Twitter account:

If you’re keeping track at home, that’s:

  • Da’Shawn Hand picks off Jalen Hurts.
  • Da’Shawn Hand fumbles.
  • Jalen Hurts recovers.
  • Jalen Hurts fumbles.
  • Troy Dye recovers.
  • Chargers ball.

Hurts is apparently the first player in NFL history (or at least since 1978) to commit two turnovers on one play:

There’s huge stakes in the Week 14 Monday Night Football showdown between the Los Angeles Chargers vs. Philadelphia Eagles with both teams entering at 8-4. The Chargers need a win to stay inside the AFC playoff picture, while Philly doesn’t want to give the Dallas Cowboys any reason for hope in the NFC East.

The Chargers immediately scored off Hurts’ double turnover with a field goal. This game has been drunk, and this play is the ultimate proof.
