We have a new Super Bowl LX conspiracy

People love conspiracy theories.

Football fans are no different.

Conspiracy theories surround the NFL, with the “Super Bowl Logo” conspiracy at the front of the pack. When the Super Bowl logo is released for the next year’s big game, fans dive into the colors to try and decipher what two teams are predestined to advance to the big game. This is a conspiracy that we have detailed in depth here at SB Nation, first in 2024 when fans believed that the Kansas City Chiefs would be taking on the Seattle Seahawks (instead the Chiefs played the Philadelphia Eagles), and then ahead of this past season, when the logo left room for interpretation.

However, now that Super Bowl LX is set, we have a new conspiracy to consider.

Thanks to this post from the NFL on opening night:

Your eyes are immediately drawn to Saquon Barkley in the forefront, representing the defending Super Bowl champions. Then you see players such as Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Brock Purdy, and Lamar Jackson, who were expected to lead teams deep into the playoffs.

But look at two players at the very front of the field, closest to Levi’s Stadium.

Drake Maye and Sam Darnold, the two quarterbacks who will take the field for Super Bowl LX.

Of course, it took a lot for those two teams — the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks — just to make the Super Bowl. New England (thanks to a relatively easy regular season schedule and an unlikely run through three tough defenses in the playoffs) became the first team to advance to a Super Bowl after losing 13 games a season ago. Darnold and the Seahawks had to win three tight games against the Los Angeles Rams to book their spot, and it took perhaps the best game of the quarterback’s career in the NFC Championship Game to get there.

In addition, this might be the most unlikely Super Bowl pairing in history, at least by the odds. According to Pro Football Reference this is the first time in league history that the teams meeting in the Super Bowl had odds of 60-1 or worse before the season:

As noted, the combined odds of this pairing was 4800-1 before the season began, lower odds than Super Bowl XXXIV between the Rams and the Tennessee Titans.

Still, if you believe conspiracy theories …

Then this game was set in stone.

And the recent replies to the original post from the NFL have many wondering what to believe.

If nothing else, expect more attention to be paid to this graphic on opening night next fall.
