Kirk Cousins is headed west.

To the Las Vegas Raiders.

As we outlined earlier in the week, the landing spots for the veteran quarterback were slowly drying up. Outside of the Pittsburgh Steelers waiting on a decision from Aaron Rodgers, most of the Week 1 starting spots were filled. However, one franchise did remain as a potential option, at least to start the 2026 season.

The Raiders.

While there is every indication that Las Vegas is going to draft Fernando Mendoza with the first-overall selection — and nothing that happened at his Pro Day on Wednesday should change that line of thinking — the organization might want to take a slower approach to handing him the keys to the franchise, and have a veteran option in place if he is not ready for Week 1.

It seems that will be Cousins who, according to his agent, has agreed to a contract with the Raiders.

The move sets up a reunion between Cousins and new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak, as the two worked together in Minnesota during the quarterback’s time in the NFC North.

It also gives the new head coach the veteran quarterback he might favor to start the season. Speaking with hte media on Tuesday Kubiak outlined his vision for the QB room, and indicated he might be inclined to start a veteran.

“Ideally, you don’t want [a rookie] to start from Day 1,” Kubiak told reporters Tuesday. “You’d love him to be able to learn behind somebody. That’s in a perfect world. It doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes they have to play from Day 1, and it’s our job as coaches to get them ready to go. I think it does help the player if they can sit behind a mature adult and watch how they run the show.”

Now the Raiders have that “mature adult” in the room.
