It’s pretty rare when an NFL game is over after the first quarter. That was the case Sunday in Colorado, when the Oakland Raiders scored 24 first-quarter points en route to a ridiculous 59-14 thrashing of the Denver Broncos.
Week 7 NFL Scores And Results: Raiders Destroy Broncos In Weirdest Game Of The Day
Oakland’s 59 points were the most the team has scored in the history of the franchise. All of those points were on the board by the end of the third quarter.
The Raiders ran for a whopping 328 yards on the game, spearheaded by the 165 yards and three touchdowns put up by Darren McFadden, who averaged 10.3 yards per rush on the day. Michael Bush chipped in with 52 yards and a touchdown, and Marcel Reece had 39 yards and a touchdown of his own. Jason Campbell threw for 204 yards and two more touchdowns, and the other Chris Johnson returned a Kyle Orton interception 30 yards for a first-quarter touchdown.
Perhaps more impressively, Oakland’s defense completely shut down Orton and one of the NFL’s hottest receivers, Brandon Lloyd. Orton did throw two touchdown passes, both to running back Knowshon Moreno, but only completed 12 of 29 passes for 198 yards. He entered the game averaging 324 passing yards per contest. Lloyd caught one pass for 46 yards.
This was one of the most dominant performances in recent memory, by any team, in any setting. Oakland is now 3-4 on the season, alone in second place behind Kansas City in the AFC West. Denver, at 2-5, is at the bottom of the division with San Diego.
