Vkings QB Brett Favre currently sits at 291 consecutive games played. It's very possible that streak ends on Sunday. Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Favre has consulted with Dr. James Andrews and remains in "considerable discomfort" after re-injuring his ankle.
Brett Favre In ‘Considerable Discomfort’ As Week 8 Status Remains Up In The Air
Favre, whom Vikings coach Brad Childress said Monday doesn't need another surgery, is trying to keep the swelling down, so he's staying off the ankle as much as possible, the source said. Favre hasn't ruled out playing in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Favre reportedly isn't worried about his consecutive games streak and will not retire mid-season. If Favre does not play this week it's very possible he sits out Week 9 as well just to be safe. If he can't go it would be QB Tarvaris Jackson taking his place.
Favre has admitted that the ankle is bothering him but has a high pain threshold according to folks that know him. It’s likely that the decision will be out of Favre’s hands and will be made by head coach Brad Childress and the Vikings medical staff.
Childress has indicated that he wants to see Favre able to move before he makes the decision to play him. He doesn’t want to see a “sitting duck” out there. The Vikings start practice on Wednesday and will make update Favre’s status as out, doubtful or questionable on Friday afternoon.
