NFL Week 8 Scores And Results: Troy Smith Leads Niners Over Broncos In London

Former Heisman Trophy winners Troy Smith and Tim Tebow both scored rushing touchdowns in London as Smith’s 49ers beat Tebow’s Broncos, 24-16. Smith played very well in his first start as a Niner, throwing for 196 yards and a score.

Broncos QB Kyle Orton threw for 369 yards, 169 of them to WR Brandon Lloyd, but San Francisco’s plus-two turnover advantage and Denver’s lack of a running game made it hard for the Broncos to convert all those yards into points.

49ers TE Vernon Davis left early, but Delanie Walker was good for 85 yards in relief. 49ers DT Justin Smith was today’s defensive star, badgering Orton all day long and sacking him twice.

Both teams are now 2-6, and both have byes next week. The Broncos have lost two straight, while San Fran has won two of its last three.
