A year ago, the St. Louis Rams were 1-15 and the worst team in football. In beating the Carolina Panthers 20-10 on Sunday, the Rams are now 4-4 and serious contenders in a wide-open NFC West.
NFL Week 8 Scores And Results: Rams Back To .500 With 20-10 Win Over Panthers
Rookie quarterback Sam Bradford played a highly efficient if unspectacular game, completing 25 of 32 passes for 191 yards with two touchdowns in the win. Bradford hit receiver Danny Amendola for a two-yard touchdown pass to give the Rams a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, and then found tight end Daniel Fells for a 23-yard score to extend the lead to 17-3 in the third quarter.
Steven Jackson rushed for 59 yards on 23 carries, and young receiver Brandon Gibson paced the Rams with 67 yards on six receptions.
Panthers quarterback Matt Moore found rookie receiver Brandon LaFell for the latter’s first career touchdown to cut the Rams lead to 20-10 late in the ballgame, but by that time, the damage was done: Moore threw three interceptions and was sacked three times, while the Rams completely shut down Carolina’s rushing attack. This was the latest in a string of strong performances from Steve Spagnuolo’s improving defense.
While the Rams revel in their .500 record and competitiveness in the NFC West, the Panthers fall to 1-6.
