The Rams did get to Smith for five sacks, but in most cases it was on plays where Smith was looking to be making big plays.
Joe Nedney hit a 29-yard field goal to seal the game in overtime. That kick was set up by a questionable 22-yard pass interference penalty on Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe when tight end Delonte Walker collided with him on a route.
It marks the 49ers first victory over a division opponent this year and the team’s second in a row. The Rams meanwhile fall to 4-5, a game behind the Seahawks, who beat the Cardinals 36-18.
