Todd Haley Apologies To Universe For Josh McDaniels Handshake Snub

Chiefs head coach Todd Haley declined to shake the hand of Broncos head coach of Josh McDaniels after the Broncos wiped the floor with the Chiefs on Sunday. No one save the coaches - and maybe not even McDaniels - knows why the snub took place, but everyone seems to have a good idea. Something to do with running up the score or somesuch dubious display of perceived poor sportsmanship.

On Monday, Haley offered a public apology:

“It sounds like it’s become a big deal and I do want to apologize for me not shaking Josh’s hand after the game. I do believe in doing what’s right and that was not right. Probably let the emotions of the situation get me too much. And I apologize. I apologize to the fans and to Denver and to Josh.”

Of course, articles on the subject make sure to note that Haley has yet to extend a personal apology to McDaniels.

I guess that would be a nice extra touch to what is already a pretty pro forma apology to something perhaps a little insensitive but only a big deal because the media seized on it. Haley himself begins his apology with an expression of surprise by the scandal. Possibly that even further dilutes a flimsy apology to some, but as Josh McDaniels said yesterday, he likely doesn’t care much either way.
