This game was expected to be a shootout, with both teams looking to air it out early and often to exploit mismatches in the other’s secondary. Well, the first quarter didn’t turn out that way, and the Jets lead, 3-0.
NFL Week 11 Scores And Results: In A Thriller, Sanchez Leads Jets Down The Field In Final Minute, 30-27
Both quarterbacks showed flashes of brilliance during this game. Jets QB Mark was more consistent, though, and completed 22 of 38 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns (one INT). His counter part, QB Matt Schaub, completed 19 of 33 passes for 254 yards and one touchdown.
The Jets dominated the first three quarters, and after building a 23-7 lead, it looked like this game was all about over. Wrong.
The Jets started the fourth quarter with a comfortable 20-7 lead, but after a masterful quarter by Texans quarterback Matt Schaub and TE Joel Dreessen (four catches, 106 yards, one TD), they fought back in the game. A late Arian Foster touchdown gave them a 24-23 lead.
The Texans then built a 27-23 lead after a Sanchez interception and a Rackers field goal. Sanchez had one minute to work with and no timeouts, down 27-23. He found LaDainian Tomlinson over the middle to get Jets to midfield, and then Braylon Edwards on a 40-yard strike to put them inside the 10-yard line.
Then, on first and goal with 16 seconds remaining, he found Santonio Holmes on a fade route in the corner of the end zone who had his man beat, and the rest was history.
The Jets won the game, 30-27, as the football gods looked out for them yet again.
