Mat McBriar Executes Awesome (And Illegal) Drop Kick Punt

↵

Cowboys punter Matt McBriar got his start as an Australian rules football player, so he obviously has some familiarity with the drop kick, a maneuver which involves bouncing the ball off the ground, then kicking it away. As impressive as McBriar makes it look by fumbling the snap then making a decent kick as he's slipping to the ground, it's an illegal move in the NFL.

↵McBriar was flagged for an illegal kick, a penalty that New Orleans declined, so no particular damage was done with the sliding kick. In fact, the heads-up play ended up working out for the best. Had McBriar just tried to scoop up the ball, he almost certainly would have been tackled or fumbled.
