Much like the Philadelphia Eagles third quarter, the Chicago Bears had a mediocre fourth quarter. However they had the opportunity to sit back and play prevent defense for most of the quarter due to their 15 point lead. The Eagles changed course though, bringing the game to within 31-26 before finally bequeathing the game to the Bears with less than 2 minutes left in the game.
Eagles Vs. Bears: Chicago Holds Onto Onside Kick, Downs Eagles 31-26
An onside kick recovery separated the Eagles from an opportunity to attempt to win the game. Controversy ensued when the Bears recovered the Eagles onside attempt but the returner was stripped of the ball and the Eagles appeared to recover the fumble. The referees confered and declared the returner had “given himself up” and was thus down prior to the fumble. They chose not to review the play (the clock was under two minutes by this point) and the game was the Bears to kneel out.
Michael Vick had a spectacular pass through four defenders to reach the hands of Brent Celek, who reeled in the pass for a touchdown. The score cut the Bears lead from 31-19 to 31-26.
