Derek Anderson Will Remain Cardinals Starting QB, Ken Whisenhunt Says

Arizona Cardinals QB Derek Anderson had a meltdown following the Monday Night Football loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He lashed out a reporter that questioned why TV cameras caught him laughing at one point late in the game and stormed out of his press conference. Anderson's tirade -- and his below average, at best, play recently -- made some think the Cardinals could go in another direction at quarterback.

That won’t be the case as Cards head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on Tuesday that Anderson remains his starting quarterback. SB Nation’s Revenge Of The Birds has the recap:

He also said that at this time, Derek Anderson gives the Cardinals the best chance to win (what does that say about John Skelton and Max Hall?). He also said that he doesn't want to play Skelton this year because he doesn't want to run the risk of "damaging a young player" by having him play. I'd assume that is because of how raw Skelton is.

The Derek Anderson experiment has failed. The Max Hall experiment failed (but not long-term). So why not try John Skelton? I understand Whisenhunt's explanation but Arizona needs some sort of lift heading into the final stretch of the season. Perhaps Skelton could provide that spark.

We’ll see how Anderson responds next week to his poor performance and post-game tirade. Check out Revenge of the Birds for more on Whisenhunt’s press conference.
