Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre seems resigned to the fact that he won’t play Monday and may never play again. Speaking to reporters, Favre said his shoulder injury isn’t improving and there’s no way he could suit up in his present condition. Favre continued to experience pain in his shoulder while experiencing numbness in his hand, making it unlikely he’d be able to play in just four days.

With his chances of playing again this season continuing to decrease, Favre admitted this is probably the end of his 20-year career.
“I knew going in, as with any season, there are no guarantees, and things may not go as you would have hoped,” Favre said, adding: “I know up to this point, I came in and did everything I could do. Don’t regret it one bit. If it’s meant to be over, then so be it.”
Out of the goodness of his heart, Favre, who was not placed on injured reserve, will continue to travel with the team and roam the sidelines during games. Because the Vikings decided to keep Favre on the active roster, the possibility of a return in the final two games remains open, no matter how slim the quarterback believes his chances are.
Without Favre, the Vikings were already in a bad spot at quarterback. That situation went from bad to dire when backup quarterback Tavaris Jackson went down with a season-ending foot injury last week against the New York Giants. Rookie quarterback Joe Webb, a sixth-round pick out of UAB, will be at the helm as the Vikings face the Chicago Bears on Monday night at TCF Bank Stadium.
