If you were wondering how Donovan McNabb's camp would respond to the news that it would be Rex Grossman starting against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, his agent can sum it up in two words: beyond disrespectful. Fletcher Smith, McNabb's agent, spoke with the Washington Post on Friday after the news came out that McNabb would be benched on Sunday.
Donovan McNabb Benching ‘Beyond Disrespectful’, Agent Says
“Disrespectful is probably not strong enough of a word,” Fletcher N. Smith, McNabb’s representative, said in a lengthy phone interview Friday. “Donovan has handled himself with nothing but class, not just in Washington but as an ambassador for the league. To treat him this way ... it’s beyond disrespectful.”
It’s unclear whether McNabb was informed of the move but, from his agent’s words, it sounds like he wasn’t. On Wednesday, with rumors circulating that he may be benched, McNabb was asked if Shanahan would inform him if he weren’t the starter.
“I would have hoped so,” McNabb said. “That’s professionalism and communication.”
McNabb received a contract extension this season but the Redskins can get out of it fairly easily before the 2011 season.
