PHOTO: Fireman Ed Roots Jets To Victory In Pittsburgh
In case you didn’t know, Fireman Ed is the Jets’ unofficial “mascot.” A Jets season ticket holder and former NYC fireman, he attends every game, both home and away.
Here he is in Pittsburgh, seated amongst a barrage of Steelers fans.
At this point in the game, the Jets were up 20-17, and the Steelers had the football with less than ten minutes remaining to play. They were looking to take the tie the game or possibly take the lead. They did neither, as Jets’ CB Drew Coleman would go on to strip-sack QB Ben Roethlisberger leading to a “3rd and long,” and the Steelers would go on to punt.
The Jets later recorded a safety late in the game as OLB Jason Taylor broke through and tackled RB Mewelde Moore in the end zone for a loss. They built a 22-17 lead, and looked to a “prevent” defense, giving up completions put keeping Steelers out of the end zone. It almost backfired, as Roethlisberger drove Pittsburgh down the field, but they came up just short, and the Jets pulled off the upset in dramatic fashion.
