Tonight's Monday NIght Football game between the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Chicago Bears has had multiple story lines. These include the game being played outdoors at TCF Bank Field, the home of nearby University of Minnesota, Brett Favre back starting, Adrian Peterson being inactive with a thigh injury, and Peterson's replacement Toby Gerhart getting his first NFL start.
One additional story line that almost came to fruition: Joe Webb starting at quarterback for the Vikings. For those unaware of who Joe Webb is, he is a rookie out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham who played both quarterback and wide receiver at college. Plus he is freakishly athletic.
Joe Webb Handing Off To Toby Gerhart: What Could Have Been
Webb and Gerhart starting in the same backfield could have been a sight to see. Neither player has played in this type of weather, as Gerhart played college ball out west at Stanford and Webb in the south at UAB. So to see these two players in freezing conditions could have resulted in an array of follies.
Snow games are always entertaining, but to see two players who have little to no chemistry in the first career start for both, combined with severe weather, could have resulted in botched hand offs, slipping on the icy field, and an overall catastrophe.
