The Indianapolis Colts had a huge win on Sunday beating the Jacksonville Jaguars securing the lead in the division and a playoff spot if they win their next two games. But the victory came at a price when WR Austin Collie went down with a concussion last Sunday.
Austin Collie Injury Lands Him On Injured Reserve; Colts WR Out For Season
Colts owner Jim Irsay now writes via Twitter (seriously, an NFL owner is on Twitter) that Collie will be placed on injured reserve ending his season. Collie’s concussion last weekend was his third of the season so obviously this is the right call considering the NFL’s emphasis on concussions this year.
In nine games this season Collie has 58 receptions for 649 yards and eight touchdowns.
SB Nation’s Stampede Blue predicts Collie’s injury results in an emphasis on the run moving forward.
Personally, I think the Colts should look to re-establish the run game in his absence. The Colts are getting healthier at RB, with Joseph Addai and Mike Hart allegedly set to return by the end of the season, and eventually they could establish some nice depth at the position. They may be ranked dead last in rushing yards per game, but most folks tend to forget that, when Addai and Hart were healthy, the Colts were a respectable running team.
For the Colts, it's yet another injury in a long line of injuries this year. Peyton Manning isn't having his best season but considering the weapons he's lost he's been solid. Knowing Manning and the Colts, they'll plug someone in and hardly miss a beat (but that's not to underscore the importance of this loss).
