it's the battle of two of the league's best running backs on Sunday when Jamaal Charles and the Kansas City Chiefs host Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs are still in the AFC playoff race as they hold a one-game lead over the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West. The Titans are basically out of the playoff race.
NFL Picks Week 16: Jamaal Charles, Chiefs Face Chris Johnson, Titans
The Chiefs game plan every week is the same -- run the ball and stop the run. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones can expect plenty of work and the Chiefs have no problem doing that all day until the Titans prove they can stop it. Their passing offense is surprisingly effective but inconsistent.The Chiefs run defense has struggled in the second half of the season so stopping Chris Johnson is clearly the No. 1 priority for them.
The Titans game plan is the same -- run the ball and stop the run. They'll look to Chris Johnson to do what he did last time he played the Chiefs -- 168 yards and a touchdown. Johnson can break one from anywhere so part of the Chiefs key will be avoiding the big plays. The Titans passing game won't beat you but Kerry Collins' big arm can make you pay if you sell out to stop Johnson.
The Chiefs are five point favorites over the Titans which sounds about right. KC is 6-0 at home while the Titans have lost six of their last seven. Look for the Chiefs to hang on in this one, and by more than five points. They average double digit victories at home and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue.
