NFL Postponement Clear Indicator That America Is ‘A Nation Of Wusses’

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell was displeased when the NFL decided to move the Philadelphia Eagles' home game against the Minnesota Vikings from Sunday night to Tuesday evening. So distraught was Rendell that he took to radio station 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia to air his grievances and somehow compare a football game involving Andy Reid to the good people of China and their penchant for calculus.

“We’ve become a nation of wusses. The Chinese are kicking our butt in everything,” Rendell added. “If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been marching down to the stadium, they would have walked and they would have been doing calculus on the way down.”

Awkward racial stereotypes and xenophobic, jingoistic sentiment aside, I have to disagree with the Governor and here’s why.

If this was in China, the Philadelphia Eagles wouldn’t be called the Philadelphia Eagles. They’d be called the Guangdong Flying Whirlwinds. And the Minnesota Vikings wouldn’t be called the Minnesota Vikings. They’d be called the Qingdao Ducks.

The Whirlwinds would not have a coach like Andy Reid because a coach like Andy Reid would have been locked up years ago for his poor instant replay challenge decisions, which would have been deemed crimes against the state.

The Ducks would not have a gunslinger like Brett Favre because gunslinging was deemed illegal by China years ago. So was “being a kid” and “having fun out there.”

And if this was indeed China, we probably wouldn’t be playing American football. Duh, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.

In conclusion, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell is wrong. Anyone who disagrees with me is a wussy.
