When crafting a sign to hold aloft at a sporting event, there is a lot to consider. You have the staggeringly rare opportunity to broadcast a message to millions of people, but you have a small space in which to work. You must fit as much pith into as little space as possible.
‘Thic Guy Lovbs Footsall’: A Heartwarming Fan Sign Story
What would you tell the world? Well, a friend of mine knew precisely what he wanted to say...
...and his noble mission was to get it on television.
The beauty of this was that whenever a field goal or extra point was attempted, CBS would have little choice but to point the camera at his sign. Adam solicited his Google Reader buddies for ideas, and for example’s sake, he suggested:
THIC GUY
LOVBS
FOOTSALL
Regrettably, the “CBS” acrostic required Adam to misspell most of the words. The meaning would be lost on few, however, and it did cleverly spell “CBS” from top to bottom. More importantly, it was factually accurate. I’ve known Adam for some time now, and I can confidently vouch for the fact that he loves football.
The plan was virtually fail-proof, and just like every plan in history that was claimed to be fail-proof, Adam’s plan was a success.

And for a handful of seconds, Adam spoke to the planet, his message louder than any man could shout through a megaphone. Alexander the Great, for all his conquests, was never able to speak to so many at once. Nor Genghis Khan, nor Abraham Lincoln, nor any kings or queens of old. He held up his sign, and he spoke, and the world knew:
“This guy loves football, my friends. CBS, everyone.”
