The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet in the AFC Championship game on Sunday and one of the questions heading into the game is how head coach Rex Ryan will use CB Darrelle Revis, who is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Revis has a reputation of taking out of the game whoever he is recovering.
Jets Vs. Steelers: Darrelle Revis On Hines Ward, Antonio Cromartie On Mike Wallace
The Steelers have a pair of very good receivers in Hines Ward and Mike Wallace. Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports the Jets are planning on using their second cornerback, Antonio Cromartie, on Wallace. That will then match Revis up on Ward.
The Jets typically use a full dose of man coverage, but the deep threat presented by Wallace, along with wideouts Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown, could lead to the team employing a safety over the top against the Steelers, based on down and distance.
The Jets obviously don’t want to get burned by Wallace and clearly think Ward is a threat if they’re matching Revis on him. Basically, the Jets want to be able to attack the quarterback without getting burned by Wallace. They’ve been pretty successful at that throughout the year so this is Pittsburgh’s biggest test.
