2011 Super Bowl: Pittsburgh Steelers Need A Complete Game Against Green Bay Packers

SB Nation’s Behind The Steel Curtain brought up a great point regarding the 2011 Super Bowl matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers -- Pittsburgh needs to show they can put up two good halves.

As BTSC notes, the Steelers went into halftime of their divisional round game after giving up 21 first half points to the Ravens. The worst of it all was that the Steelers, at least statistically, were outplaying the Ravens. In the New York Jets game the following week, the Steelers went into halftime with a three touchdown lead and ended up winning by just five points.

Against the Packers, BTSC predicts, the Steelers can’t afford to have one good half and one bad half.

In order to win the Super Bowl the Steelers are going to have to show they can put together a complete game to beat the Green Bay Packers. I say that, because the Packers are a better team than both the Ravens and the Jets. From my 2010 defensive analysis earlier this week, they came out as the 2nd best team in the league. Dom Capers is a defensive coordinator that draws similarities to our own Dick LeBeau. They have several playmakers on defense in Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, B.J. Raji, and Desmond Bishop.

It’s hard to say how much better the Packers are than the Ravens or Jets but at the least they’ll have an extra week to prepare. That should be enough motivation for the Steelers to realize they likely won’t be able to get away with playing half a game and still win.
