Jim Harbaugh, Josh McDaniels And Other NFL Head Coaching News

As of yesterday, there were six NFL head coaching openings -- Browns, Panthers, 49ers, Broncos, Cowboys and Raiders.

One of those spots was filled when Jerry Jones announced Jason Garrett would have the interim tag removed and he would become the full time head coach.

So that left five openings but we thought the Dolphins were in line to fire Tony Sparano as they pursued Jim Harbaugh. That’s not the case, according to multiple reports. The Dolphins will not fire Sparano and they will not hire Harbaugh. Apparently talks with Harbaugh broke down meaning the Dolphins will stay the course.

There were more head coaching rumors on Thursday and many of them involved Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers appear to be out of the running for Harbaugh at the moment. It’s not clear where their focus has shifted but it’s believed Raiders OC Hue Jackson is on their radar. If Harbaugh wants to stay in the Bay Area, the Raiders also have an opening. The Broncos don’t have any front-runners for their vacant head coaching job but do want to set up a meeting with Harbaugh.

Josh McDaniels name has also come up several times in coaching rumors. There was a report that the 49ers wanted to interview him for their head coaching but McDaniels reportedly wasn’t interested. He’s interviewing with the Vikings, according to a report. Also interviewing with the Vikings? Former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary.
