San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews, who injured his groin and left Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter, is not expected to play this weekend against defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.
Ryan Mathews Injury: Status In Doubt For Chargers RB In Week 9
Mathews has been knocked out of portions of three games this season with thumb, calf and groin injuries. He has yet to not be available for game, however, and ranks seventh in the league with 851 scrimmage yards.
Mathews had 112 yards from scrimmage, including 13 carries for 57 yards and a team-high six receptions for 55 yards against the Chiefs. He also played through a minor injury to his left thumb suffered in Week 7. That injury didn’t contribute to his second-quarter fumble, though, which occurred when he had the ball punched out of the grip of his right hand.
Curtis Brinkley came in for Mathews and scored his first NFL touchdown. However, he also suffered a concussion and his status for this weekend is also up in the air.
Incumbant starter Mike Tolbert is expected to return.
