Terrence Newman knew he was beat and did the only thing he could do to stop Brandon Marshall. He put both arms around the wide receiver's neck and just hoped he could keep him from catching a long pass from Matt Moore. It didn't work and the Miami Dolphins took a 16-10 lead over the Dallas Cowboys at the end of the third quarter of Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game.

Marshall's 35-yard catch was actually the second long pass completion of the drive. Two plays earlier, Brian Hartline had caught a 36-yard pass from Moore. It was actually the third passing play of at least 30 yards for the Dolphins in the game, after they had just five such plays all season heading into the game. Hartline's catch came on a third-and-15 from the Dolphins' 23.
The Dolphins opened the quarter with a nearly seven-minute drive, and although they moved the ball 71 yards on 11 plays, they had to settle for another Shayne Graham field goal. Graham did convert the 27-yarder, but it was clearly less than the Dolphins had hoped for. That drive was the fourth time they had moved deep into Cowboys territory, and was the third time the Dolphins had been forced to settle for a field goal after moving inside the 20.
Reggie Bush was the key player in the drive, picking up 50 of those yards. The big pickup was a 34-yard catch and run that moved the Dolphins down to the Dallas 35.
