Adrian Peterson Injury: Vikings RB Out For Week 12

The Minnesota Vikings will be without Adrian Peterson for week 12, as the running back recovers from a high ankle sprain. The team hopes to have him back in time for week 13.

The Minnesota Vikings will be without running back Adrian Peterson for their week 12 game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to 1500 ESPN in the Twin Cities. Peterson suffered a high ankle sprain last week, giving fans a fright as they watched him get carted off the field. Former Stanford running back Toby Gerhart will take his place as the team's top rusher.

Peterson told the press earlier in the week that he expected to play this week. Needless to say, Peterson is not a doctor, and Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier quickly threw cold water on that notion. Frazier has said that they expect Peterson back next week for a home game against the Denver Broncos, but even that might be overly optimistic considering that Peterson is dealing with a high ankle sprain.

Players often take four weeks to recover from a high ankle sprain. Peterson removed his walking boot on Friday. The Vikings did test the injury. Frazier told the media on Friday, “when he got up on his toes to plant or make a cut, that’s where he had trouble.” High ankle sprains significantly impact a player’s mobility, something that is kind of important to running backs. For now the Vikings remain optimistic, but keep an eye on the situation.
