NFL Scores Week 12: Vikings Vs. Falcons

Falcons hold off a late rally by the Vikings to hold on for a much needed victory.

Christopher Owens may have saved the Atlanta Falcons season. The corner back chased down Percy Harvin on a 104-yard kickoff return late in the fourth quarter, stopping the speedster at the 4-yard line and the rest of the defense kept the Minnesota Vikings out of the end zone as the Falcons held on for a 24-17 victory on Sunday.

On the kick off return, Harvin took the kick near the back of the end zone and looked to be heading for his second touchdown of the game. But Owens stuck with the play and made the tackle. The Vikings were then unable to get the ball in the end zone, although Harvin did appear to cross the goal line on one play but had been judged to have had his forward progress stopped.

The Vikings were in that position despite falling behind 17-0. Touchdowns by Toby Gerhart -- who became the first Vikings running back other than Adrian Peterson to score a rushing touchdown since Week 12 of last week -- and Harvin had cut into that deficit.

The Falcons got a solid performance from their passing offense, despite an off day from running back Michael Turner. Matt Ryan tossed three touchdowns and Roddy White made 10 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown to lead the way for the Falcons.
