Jacksonville Jaguars Deny Report Of Fred Smith Buying Part Of Team

Earlier today 1010XL, a local Jacksonville sports radio station, reported that CEO and president of FedEx, Fred Smith, was in negotiations to purchase a minority share of the team. The Jacksonville Jaguars have denied the report. Adam Stites of SB Nation's Jaguars blog Big Cat Country received a denial of the report via e-mail when he asked the team for a statement.

1010xl is wrong. That report is not true. Wayne Weaver is not selling the team.

This is not the first time the Jaguars have denied reports of the team being sold. Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver denied the rumor that Fred Smith was in the process of buying the team when asked by ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Florida Times-Union columnist Gene Frenette prior to the Jaguars Monday Night Football match up with the Baltimore Ravens a few weeks ago.
