The 2011 season has been a disaster for Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis, and his teammates seem to recognize the problems. Hillis had a breakout 2010 season that resulted in the cover of Madden '12. Since gracing the cover, it has been all downhill for the running back as he has dealt with contract issues, strep throat, a hamstring injury and now his teammates getting fed up with all his issues.
Peyton Hillis’ Cleveland Browns Teammates Stage Intervention
Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that several of Hillis’ Cleveland Browns teammates staged an intervention of sorts this past Wednesday as they try to get Hillis refocused moving forward. While the hamstring injury is a legitimate issue, the previous bout of strep throat resulted in Hillis acknowledging that his agent suggested he sit out the game.
Once that hit, it is not surprising that Hillis’ teammates are getting fed up with the situation:
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” says one Browns veteran. “Last year, Peyton was such a positive, inspirational force on our team - but now he’s like a different guy. It’s like he’s in a funk that he can’t get out of, and it’s killing us, because we really need him. And we’ve told him that. But we’re at the point where we just don’t know what to do.”
At this point, the whole scenario seems straight out of any number of cliched sports movies. Hillis could reportedly miss a couple more weeks with the latest aggravation of his hamstring injury. We’ll see if the time off humbles Hillis further and has him back in 2010 form as the inspirational music plays in the background.
